stroop·wa·fel (de ~)

H came to visit S and he kindly brought over my new fave snack: stroop·wa·fel (de ~)

I love to eat it with a mug of hot coffee…just place a piece of stroopwaffel on top of the coffee cup to warm it up so that the caramel in between melts a little and you have the best tea break ever!

Yums!

Destroyed

In a single fell swoop, I destroyed my rice cooker.

I was going to cook some rice for dinner, so I took out the pot from the rice cooker and brought it to the rice bin when I discovered that I needed a bowl to measure out the rice. So I went to the cabinets to grab a bowl, filled it with the required amount of rice when my dog suddenly barked furiously…I got a startle and automatically just dumped the rice into the rice cooker (which had no pot since I removed it earlier on)

Gah!!! No matter how much I shake and tilt, there’s tons of rice grains stuck inside and under the heating element.

Time for a new rice cooker.

According to the hubs…this was all an elaborate set up to get meself one of those new fangled programmable rice cookers.
Wat can I say…it’s just good timing :)

Nausea

Gah! The whole nausea and puking thing has kicked in the last 2 weeks.

This couple of days has been particularly bad especially during work hours. The air-freshener in the office is killing me!!

Nausea medication, ginger sweets, dry crackers have been no help. Things got so bad that the doc gave me two days MC.

Fresh air is my best friend now.

7 Habits

running joke about the “compulsory” training that organizations send you for:

Steven Covey’s famous 7 habits for successful people are nothing more than a free adaptation of very common Hokkien phrases

Habit No 1: Be Pro-ActiveKin Ka Kin Chiew ( Fast leg, fast hand )

Habit No 2: Sharpen the SawToh Bua Lai Lai ( Make the knife sharp )

Habit No 3: Begin with the End In MindOoh Tao Ooh Buay ( Have head, have tail )

Habit No 4: First Things FirstChik Hung Chik Hung Lai - Ban Ban Lai( One thing at a time, slow and steady ); orCho Tow Seng ( Do first ; talk later )

Habit No 5: Think Win-WinLong Chong Ai Yarh ( Must win everything )

Habit No 6: Seek To Understand Rather Than To Be UnderstoodCho Lang Ai Eh Beng Pek ( You must be understanding )

Habit No 7: SynergizeTai Kay Ai Hup Chop ( All must cooperate )

Best pork knuckles!

A great place to have succulent pork knuckles wrapped with lettuce and ginger is at Orchidville.

The Forrest restaurant is a quaint rainforest themed eatery that serves up a great pork knuckle dish! We really enjoyed the dish…but with just two of us, we had to ‘da pao’ about half the pork knuckle home…tis was a huge serving!

After dinner you can browse and even buy potted orchids if you are so inclined. It’s basically a flower farm setting that just happens to serve some seriously good pork knuckles.

A fun and quaint place to try out!

Cycling

So with almost everything borrowed, the hubs and me went to join the masses for some open road cycling.

With good weather, the 20km ride that we signed up for was truly a breeze with wonderful sights and skyline to enjoy.

I really enjoyed it as it was well organized and safe.

It was the cycling bit from home to the F1 pit and back that wasn’t so fun. Singapore’s narrow roads and drivers just don’t get along with cyclists.
