Reading

…”The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. I had earlier watched his hour long lecture, but the book has more details and also parts about his r/s with his wife that he didn’t dare talk about in his last lecture due his not being able to handle the emotional trauma on stage. Parts or stuff I like that we can all learn from:

I am a spreader. My clothes, clean and dirty are spread around the bedroom, and my bathroom sink is cluttered. It drives Jai crazy. Before I got sick, she’d say something. But Dr. Reiss has advised her not to let small things trip us up. Obviously I ought to be neater. I owe Jai many apologies. But she has stopped telling me about the minor stuff that bugs her. do we really want to spend our last months together arguing that I haven’t hung up my khakis? We do no. So now Jai kicks my clothes into a corner and moves on.

I think many of us live with situations like the above…and this is reminder to us to not sweat the small stuff I guess.

When we send our kids to play organized sports-football, soccer, swimming, whatever-for most of us, it’s not because we’re desperate for them to learn the intricacies of the sport. What we really want them to learn is far more important: teamwork, preseverance, sportsmanship, the value of hard work, an ability to deal with adversity.

I totally agree with the above statement and the experience of my own days with an organized sports stays with me indelibly. I too hope one day, when I have kids to be able to expose, give them the opportunity and support them in some kind of sporting activity.

Take time out-…time is all you have. and you may find one day that you have less than you think.

One thing that makes it possible to be an optimist is if you have a contingency plan for when all hell breaks loose. There are a lot of things I don’t worry about because I have a plan in place if they do.

Luminox

The hubs bought this lovely watch for me for my birthday and I am loving it!

Ya it’s not the typically girly, fashionable or  one of those branded watches, but it’s sporty, durable and I thought super wearable for all occasions. Meaning that this suits my lifestyle and my lazy character of wearing 1 item to suit a myriad of occassions. :) Basically, I can wear the watch 24 hours a day without needing to take it off hahahaha…. New Toy

My sis and mum gifted me with an electronic piano for my birthday! *woots!*

It’s weighted, produces a beautiful sound and does all sorts of extra voices etc…hahaha it’s great to be able to play again after all those years….more than 10yrs me thinks!

Now, I am having fun making lots of “noise” getting my fingers used to the keyboard etc…great stress reliever too! I love the gift! *mucks!*

Immensely Proud

Woah, my dad got a mention of his achievments in a book titled “Tri-ing for Success: The Next Lap” the book is about the sport of Triathlons, the various successes in regional competitions, the funny side of triathlon, achievements and the history-evolution of the rising sport in Singapore.

My dad was mentioned as :

The oldest Singapore Ironman is Seetoh Hon. he was 50 when he did his IM Malaysia ‘01. He clocked a very good time of 14 hr 24 mins.”

That was my dad’s very first attempt at the Ironman…wa tell you, I am sooooo super proud of him :)

My Favourite Family Routine

From the soundtrack of The Sound of Music, Maria singing about her favourite things:

“ Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things…

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.”

One of my favourite things is to go to the beach with my family on Sundays. Better still if it is secluded and unpeopled so that I can let my dog run off-leash. Sitting by the beach with the fams, hot coffee in our flasks, strawberries in the cooler…life is good when there’s wind ruffling your hair, sand on your feet, water in the horizon for dips and family to whinge and laugh with.

It took us only over 5 years…

After much wrangling, disagreements, discussion and differences in opinions….the hubs and I have finally bought our first piece of decoration for the home. It just took us a tad longer than most people

A 90cm by 90cm piece of wall decoration for our bare wall in the hall. It is nothing fancy, nothing expensive or even unique. It’s significance lies in the fact that we both simultaneously liked the colours, the vibes and could visualize this in our home without too much trouble. In fact, we decided to buy it in approximately under 5 mins!

5 years liao

After 5 yrs of marriage, I have gotten FAT. For the last 3 years, I have not been able to wear my wedding band due to my expansion in all areas. Don’t know why no one seems to believe me when I tell them that I’ve grown a lot fatter and that the damn ring can’t fit me anymore. It even resulted in warts on my finger due to the pressure built up and I haven’t been able to wear the band for the last 3 years.

Anyway, we decided that we would get new rings since I couldn’t wear/resize the rings and his was in a bad state due to his work environment. Since it was our 5th anniversary, it was an apt time (aka good excuse) for us to go ring shopping.  :)
My ring size went from a size 4 to 8!!!! si bei jia lat! The hubs size also went up…well, let’s hope this set will last for at least 10 yrs more hahahaha. I wish I had read this article 5 years ago though!
