Old New Gadget

Just installed an old (2nd hand) GPS Garmin streetpilot into the car.

but it’s soooo cool, it’s got an audio function to tell you when to turn, how much distance left till turn, estimated TOA, speed travelling (which is more accurate than ur speedo), dead reckoning blah blah…I love it! Cos it idiot proofs the trip and reduces stress of trying to find your way to destination. Am now that one step closer to the bat mobile which I was raving about the last time. :)

Out of Control

I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of remote controls in my house. They all look imposing and complicated with tons of buttons, sliders, black, glossy, sliver, shiny. There’s one for the amplifer which by the way has to be turned to certain modes depending on whether you want to watch a movie, TV or listen to the radio etc. Than there is another remote for the TV, another one for the DVD player, another for the sound system and another for the cable.

And the best part is, in order to watch cable, all gadgets have to be turned on and modes customised.

hmm, I wonder why my parents found it hard to watch TV at my place  :???:

Edison Chen Quits HK

Hong Kong Actor Chen Quits, Admits Web Sex Photos

Hundreds of photos published online and in newspapers led to debate about Hong Kong pornography laws and a public apology from a female pop star. The pictures were posted on the Web after about 1,300 photo files were stolen from a computer sent to a repair shop, police said.

Moral of story: Secure your information!

Mr Darric Hor, Singapore’s country manager for IT security company Symantec, urges users to do a regular backup of “all important information” on external HDDs.

He also advises users to practise good security habits such as using encryption software for confidential files, so that when the computer crashes, the files remain secure during repair.

Even then, experts caution that it is still possible to recover data from disks that have been formatted several times over.

In fact, they say the only sure way to eradicate the “identity prints”, or information from computers, for good is by smashing the hard drives into bits.

Don’t be the next Edison Chen

Another update to the site

Have created a page called Archives to house all my previous posts instead of having it on the sidebar.

Am actually having quite a lot of fun updating and tweaking this site

mucking around

Been trying to set up this blog on my very own domain…but it’s been hectic around here and I haven’t had time to explore all the technicalites of this endeavour, so it’s taking a while :) Will  update everyone on the new site when it’s ready!

Anyway, I have a new lappie! Courtesy of starhub coz we got suckered into extending our contract. Loving the wide screen and not-so-hot battery pack which is allowing me to surf on the bed, in the toilet…
