mucking around

Been trying to set up this blog on my very own domain…but it’s been hectic around here and I haven’t had time to explore all the technicalites of this endeavour, so it’s taking a while :) Will  update everyone on the new site when it’s ready!

Anyway, I have a new lappie! Courtesy of starhub coz we got suckered into extending our contract. Loving the wide screen and not-so-hot battery pack which is allowing me to surf on the bed, in the toilet…

Rose hued earrings

Ta da!

Here’s another set of earrings made while multi-tasking between channel surfing, playing with the dog and talking to the hubs.

Handmade

I have found that making your own jewellery is therapeutic!  The process of choosing your materials, your colour scheme, what kind of design you want etc can be quite the girly affair (boys tend to roll eyes at this hobby)

Made this while waiting for dinner:

Warning Signage

Saw this ”roll your eye” signage pasted onto someone’s car door. It was so in your face that I had to take a pic of it :)  Guess what type of car? hehehe

Some of the Cousins

One of the rare occasion when everyone is able to get together from all over the world to be together for some good ole chinese food. In fact, I think 3/4 of the entire restaurant was booked up by the family for the occasion of a VIP’s (aka Ah Ma) birthday.

8 Treasure Tea

I attended a friend’s wedding dinner the other day and it was held at a posh Chinese Resaurant. The food was not only good, but the restaurant staff arranged for a really cool acrobatic tea pouring performance from long tipped pots before the dinner started. It was definitely an eye opener with all the drama mama moves like “spread the eagle” and “the dragon asking for direction”… but it sure was a fun start to the dinner ahead.

When dinner started, we were all served the 8 Treasures Tea (八宝茶) by the performers with their super long tipped pots…the tea is just sooooo pretty to look at!

Something different

Jaded with the usual mass produced, commerical products out there? This etsy site will be a sight for sore eyes…another community virtual store, everything is handmade, you can browse by colours, by geography, by time etc…it’s not always easy to be specfic on this site due to the sheer volume of stuff, but but but I love looking at the creative stuff coming out from there!

New York Times: Handmade 2.0

“Only about two years old, the company is not currently profitable but is somewhat unusual among Internet-based start-ups of the so-called Web 2.0 era in having a model that does not depend on advertising revenue. It depends on people buying things, in a manner that the founders position as a throwback to the way consumption ought to be: individuals buying from other individuals. “Our ties to the local and human sources of our goods have been lost,” the Handmade Pledge site asserts. “Buying handmade helps us reconnect.” The idea is a digital-age version of artisanal culture — that the future of shopping is all about the past.”

5 years liao

After 5 yrs of marriage, I have gotten FAT. For the last 3 years, I have not been able to wear my wedding band due to my expansion in all areas. Don’t know why no one seems to believe me when I tell them that I’ve grown a lot fatter and that the damn ring can’t fit me anymore. It even resulted in warts on my finger due to the pressure built up and I haven’t been able to wear the band for the last 3 years.

Anyway, we decided that we would get new rings since I couldn’t wear/resize the rings and his was in a bad state due to his work environment. Since it was our 5th anniversary, it was an apt time (aka good excuse) for us to go ring shopping.  :)
My ring size went from a size 4 to 8!!!! si bei jia lat! The hubs size also went up…well, let’s hope this set will last for at least 10 yrs more hahahaha. I wish I had read this article 5 years ago though!
