On Turning 3-0

I must say that I had a great time with my 20s. It was a period of exciting new developments and loads of changes in my life. There was a kind of heck-it-let’s-just try-it attitude to my 20s. :)

The 20s was the time where I picked up dragonboating and took part in competitions, grew spiritually, graduated from university, where I got my first taste of working, got married, set up and ran my very own home, owned my first car, ran my first 10km, completed my Masters, became the proud owner of an abandoned dog, learnt how to cook, learning how to blade, saw my sister getting maried, saw my family growing closer etc…and eventually settling down to become the person I am now.

I enjoyed my 20s and I must say that I had a fantastic journey so far. I am looking forward to my 30s…with what I hope is a less complacent attitude, a more cherish-every-moment kind of mindset. With that, I am sooo looking forward to my upcoming trip to Vietnam!!!

Greenies are evil things…

On most days, my dog is a sweet, loving and docile creature. He will come up to us and nudge us for tummy rubs, lower his head for ear scratches and lick us often to show affection.

However, once he smells his favourite treat in the whole wide world “Greenies“, he does a transformer on us and changes from a sweet loving pet to a ball of unbridled, rocketing, hairy mass of uncontrollable energy! There is no stopping him…he will bounce around the entire house until he has found the BEST spot in the house to savour his treat (and the spot changes all the time) did I also mention that the time taken to find the best spot can take hours??

By the time he has settled down with his treat, I almost always am

1) ready to kill him,

2) tearing my hair out from the noise and non-stop action and

3) promising that I will never again give him greenies!

But you look at his face la…ShOOooOOO happy with the silly treat…how to say no? and so the cycle repeats itself again a couple of days time….when I forget all of the above and give him another greenie.

Why I enjoy my leisure runs

For me, running is my way of zoning-out and just getting away from all the workday’s nitty gritties.

When I get home and put on my running shoes, that very action starts to calm me down mentally and during the warm up stretches, my breathing slows, I start to relax and begin to look forward to the run itself. :)

When I start running, it’s just me, myself and I. No external pressures, no expectations and I start enjoying the fresh air, the wind on my face and just being alive and healthy. That’s when all the worries and stress fades away and I thank God that I am alive and able to do this. After that, no problem or issue is too big for me to handle, everything can be put into reasonable perspective and it’s all up to me how much I want to push myself, stretch myself etc.

Yup, running is my therapy. What’s yours?

Slow Poke

Finally decided to check out my run time for the mile run….and found that my run speed for orchard mile run pretty slow.

Ranked 55 in my age category, quite fail leh :(

Only consolation is that the chip time is taken from gun time till finish, and due to the huge crowd (couldn’t manage to squeeze in front) I believe my actual run time was at least 30s less *console myself

Overheard at the North

The polytechnic library is right smack in the middle of the campus and has 5 entrances to allow easy access from all directions. We normally call our various entrances North, South, East, West for easy identification.

Overheard while at the North:

Student A says, “WOAH! I never knew we had a new library! This is cool!”

Student B says, “er, isn’t this the same library as the bottom one?”

Student A says, “No lah! See the whole layoout, lighting and we came in from a different gate…it’s DIFFERENT!”

Student B says, “Wah! Cool, we have 2 libraries!!”

roll eyes
