AFC
My favourite TV channel is the Asian Food Channel aka AFC.
Getting introduced to the varied Asian cusines, seeing how different cultures use different ingredients, spices, traditional methods of cooking their foods is simply amazing. I have also come to admire and respect chefs. They work under tremendous pressure and their involvment of the preparation, presentation, taste, creation, menu, environment of their food is no joke. Melding both science and art is what fine dining is about and AFC has given me a greater insight and appreciation of what goes on behind the creation of good food.
Oh, and seeing how some AFC programs make cooking look so easy has also given me ideas and inspiration to start on my culinary journey.

Never eat curries a day before a run…
The day of the Orchard Mile Run was a bright, cheerful and sunny day. The weather was perfect, the run was well organized, people were all geared up to go.
I on the other hand woke up and started the day with a big tummy ache. Suspected that it was due to the curries that I ate the day before at the prata place at Upper Thomson. The PAIN and the cramps were not funny. I tried to go to the loo but nothing was happening and since the pain was intermittent, I thought it might go away…so together with S and King, we made our way down to Dhoby Ghaut mrt to start our run.
The first flag off for the run was slated for 8.30am and at 8.15am, I started to get really bad stomach pains!!! Had to rush off to the mrt toilet, wait eons in the ever long toilet queue before I got a cubicle. By the time I was done, it was 8.29am….:)
But but…the shit was worth it!! After that I felt tons better and could run quite happily and even enjoy myself.
Moral of story: a shit a day is good and never eat curries before a run.

Unglam
Was at East Coast yesterday with the entire family for a picnic, hangout by the sea and blading sess. After nuaing for a while, HL and me went off to blade. It was great weather and feeling the wind on the face was just bliss. I can do this everyday man!
After blading, we were trying to head back to the picnic area where the rest of the family were…the area was way off the pavement…..We had to transverse sand, slope, broken concrete and more mushy ground in order to reach them.
In light of such a difficult terrain, I suggested removing our blades first before trekking back…BUT my dear HL insisted that the terrain was easy peasy….and that we could easily get up the slopes etc in our blades. Sigh. I should have just listen to my instincts and removed the blades early on…while negotiating the slopes, I ended up on all fours clutching at grass and yelling foul murder while trying to climb my way up. HL was laughing so hard at me that he was absolutely useless in helping.
That was not all….after a while later, friends and family came back to the hang out area and commented that they all saw my unglam attempt of crawling up the slope and was wondering what the heck I was trying to do. sigh.

Going Forward
Was talking to a good friend over dinner today and the book “Tuesdays with Morrie” came up. We were talking about life, general search for meaning, happiness etc…am really loving this quote from the book:
“You know what that reflects? Unsatisfied lives. Unfulfilled lives. Lives that haven’t found meaning. Because if you’ve find meaning in your life, you don’t want to go back. You want to go forward.”
I hope that in my life, I will always be able to learn (and have the courage) to look forward, to look ahead & enjoy my living, make the most of my time on Earth.
