Shanghai

Just came back from a short trip to Shanghai. The place is amazing…the sheer speed of urbanization, mimicking of all things modern and the number of people! The hustle and bustle of the place can intimidate if you dislike crowds. But city born and bred me loved it!
Shanghai is a place where I think I can work and live in for a while…
Catching a cab in Shanghai takes skill, agression and physical mobility….you have to really run for the cabs and be alert coz other people have no qualms snatching the cabs from right under your nose! But cab fares were really cheap so no complaints there.
Also food was cheap and good…yum! Xiao long bao with crab roe, “Tang” bao (soup dumplings) etc were delicious!
next stop Beijing….

Dragonboating

Went for teambuilding the other day and they put us into different coloured houses. Yellow, Orange, Blue and Red…after that they put us into dragonboats and got us to compete against each other at kallang basin. It was fun!
Of course my boat won by at least 2 boat lengths! Check out the winning pic…

Neil Gaiman
I did such a groupie thing today….I went down to Borders and accompanied a friend who wanted an autograph by Neil Gaiman. We QUEUED for close to 4 hours before getting that precious signature.
Despite the queue that never ends, Neil Gaiman was affable, patient and well worth the wait. There was even a group of fans that dressed up as “The Sandman” characters….quite a sight.
I was also impressed with Borders…after an hour an a half of queuing, Gaiman needed to go for a dinner break and to ease the tedium of the wait, Borders staff went around the queue with a basket of sweets. Quite classy of them….
Neil Gaiman blogs…A LOT….check out his journals….http://www.neilgaiman.com/
