Castle in the Sky

I am on an anime craze now….just borrowed “Castle in the Sky” by Hayao Miyazaki from the Republic Polytechnic Library…the DVD just came in and was met with squeals of delight from all the librarians who of course decided to “chop” first. (one of the perks of working in the library)

Haven’t got to watch it yet but I can’t wait….

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Just watched “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind” by Hayao Miyazaki. It is an older film who’s production date started from May 31st, 1982 to March 6th, 1984. However the social commentaries of Men indiscriminately polluting the world, our self-righteous attitude towards others who are not like us is a universal theme that is still very much prevalent today.

Nausicaa is the Princess of the Valley of the Wind who is deeply in tune with nature. She leads a peaceful life with her people and seems to understand the world differently than everyone else and she strives to live in harmony with the world and the creatures in it instead of warring and domination. The movie was a visual feast and I truly enjoyed it for it’s graphics, fantasical creatures, clever insertion of social commentry and it’s characters.

Here’s more information if you want to check up on Hayao Miyazaki’s works: http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/nausicaa/

City of the Beasts

I started reading Isabel Allende’s “City of the Beasts” which is a young adult book featuring a 15 year old boy, Alexander Cole. His mum is striken with cancer and needs the undivided attention of his father who then decides to ship Alex off to his grandmother Kate who is a bit of an eccentric and an excellent environmentalist writer. Alex than promptly proceeds to travel to the Amazon jungle with his grandmother and encounters a sinister plot… go read the book!

Caipoera

I went for kickboxing class at parco bugis this evening and the instructor taught us about 10mins worth of basic caipoera as an aerobic part of the workout and it fun! He mentioned that it is more fun to do it with a partner where there is an exchange of concurrent moves…where it is both dynamice and interactive.

So what is Caipoera?
Its origins is in martial arts, where this Brazilian art evolved into a spectacular dance form. It is both acrobatics injected with rhythmic movements danced to the samba beat of the berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro. It is said that break dancing evolved from this dance form.

That Time of the Month

I feel lousy! Lethargic, bloated, headaches, aching back and general tiredness are just some of the physical traumas that I face during that time of the month.

It’s funny how when I was younger, I never suffered…most probably coz I was exercising regularly and eating healthy Mum Cooked Food….now after marriage, exercise is at best a once a month affair and hawker food is the menu of the day….it’s no wonder my health is slowly deteoriating as seen from my physical reactions to the monthly cycle…sigh….it’s time to stop procratinating and to get into my sports gear again….I just hope they still fit.

Pampering

I think everyone needs some major pampering every now and then just to de-stress, relax and enjoy some ME time.

I had a $50 voucher for either a facial or body massage at any Amore Spa outlet and I used it for a facial on a thursday evening after work. The spa outlet was conveniently located at Bugis village, right beside the MRT and was a cosy litte set up. It had nice warm orange lightings, dark wenge wood furnishings and aromatheraphy smells all around the place. While I waited for my appointment, they set me in an “oxygen” room filled with magazines and gave me a drink of my choice. After about 5 minutes of waiting I was ushered into a private room where the facial was going to take place.

The facialist did an analysis on my skin type and immediately pronounced it “sensitive” with dry skin on the outside while oily in the inside…she was definitely accurate on that point. I always had a problem with dry skin and yet still enjoy clogged pores, pimples etc…anyway after her analysis, she went to choose appropriate products for my face and started the facial proper.

The facial was so relaxing that I fell asleep for at least half an hour! The new age music in the background only served to lull me to sleep even faster and after the facial, which took 2 hours, I felt on top of the world! Power naps are good!

Am now considering whether I should sign up for a package to get my regular dose of pampering at a discounted price….of course such pampering is going to cost and they don’t come cheap….but than again the old saying goes, work hard, play hard!

Dogs get together at East Coast Park

It’s was a sweltering day but by late afternoon on the 2nd of May, it was a perfect time to go for a trip to the park. Bringing our dogs on an outing to East Coast was a treat for them since they spend a majority of time cooped up at home. Such freedom proved to make my dog horny and wild. Check out the picture of that little fella bullying a much bigger husky!!
